Palomar Medical Technologies Inc. have come out with a ground breaking product that, if used according to instructions, diminishes fine lines around the eyes. PaloVia is the first skin renewing laser that has been approved by the FDA for home use. In the past, laser skin rejuvenation treatments were only available in a doctor’s office.

Since www.notjustthekitchen.com is geared to Baby Boomer women, I volunteered to try PaloVia and report its effects on this site.

Before undertaking the project, I contacted a good friend who is a pathologist. Her medical background provided her with a credible point of view and our friendship gave me the courage to proceed.

I don’t want to give you the impression that all my fears are quelled. No, not by a long shot. After all, it’s my face and if anything goes wrong, I can’t hide it.

I have had these wrinkles for several years and have become used to them. They appeared so slowly that I hadn’t notice them until one day, in a magnifying mirror, there they were, staring at me! Still, taking this step is risky.

Lotions and creams, that are most effective on the skin’s outer layer, haven’t had much effect on my wrinkles. So, I’m ready, with a great deal of trepidation, to hand over my fine lines to the PaloVia Laser.

Here is how it should work:

The PaloVia works below the skin surface where wrinkles form. Short pulses of micro-fine laser light reach deeply into the skin’s sub-layers, treating the aging support structure. Then the body’s natural healing process sweeps away older, damaged tissue and rebuilds it with fresh, new collagen and elastin.

This is how I will keep you updated:

* My next post will be during the first week of daily use. I will describe how it feels and how the skin around my eyes is responding to the treatment.

* In the second or third week of treatment (still using it daily), I will post an update on my progress.

* A final article, once the treatment is completed in four to six weeks, will have my comments on the overall treatment and its effects.

It is recommended that I continue a maintenance schedule of twice a week application to prevent the wrinkles from returning. Whether I will continue its use will be seen in about a month.

Check back and follow my progress!
